Cocklebury Books

an independent children’s book publisher

What’s a vistit from Ryan T. Higgins like?  His visits consist of talking about what it’s like to be an author/illustrator, reading his books, and leading a creative art activity.

Ryan’s visits are geared towards pre-k to 4th graders. His visits last all day and are split up into 45-minute sessions, with 15-minute breaks to cover the different grade levels/classes.

Ryan takes time to talk about his job and what his “average” day is like.  He tells the kids about how he was just a regular kid who liked to draw in school and how he focused his desire to make cartoons into a reality.  The way he relates to kids helps inspire them to pursue their own interests.  Ryan also shares inside tips on how to come up with creative ideas.

Ryan reads Twaddleton’s Cheese to the kids and gives them a sneak peek
at books he’s currently working on. To find out more about Ryan’s books or to request a copy before a reading visit the About the book page.

After the reading is complete, kids are always welcome to ask questions.

Ryan finishes by making a drawing for the class using his laptop, digital drawing pad, and projector.  He asks the class to think of  animals and then he takes those different animals and mixes them together to make a silly new creature.  Once the drawing is finished, it’s up to the kids to name the creature and come up with it’s backstory.
